Mr. Richard R. Brown MA (Cantab) MB BS FRCS (Tr&Ortho)
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1989 and from King's College Hospital, London in 1993. My specialist Orthopaedic training was at the Middlesex Hospital, Central London, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London.

I have been an established Consultant for over seven years. In Cheltenham I have developed a dedicated Foot and Ankle service. My interest in all Foot & Ankle conditions was inspired by completion of advanced training in Foot & Ankle Surgery at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Middlesex Hospital London as well as a Fellowship at The Children's Hospital, Westmead, Sydney, Australia. I was an International Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, for six months in 2002.

I strongly believe in teaching the next generation of surgeons. I am the Orthopaedic Specialty Tutor for Gloucestershire and was appointed to The Board of Examiners for the FRCS (Tr&Orth), for the Royal Colleg of Surgeons of Edinburgh in order to maintain the standards of new Consultants. Each year I teach Foot & Ankle surgical techniques and lecture in London, Oxford, Bristol and Cheltenham. I have been a Faculty member on National and International Foot and Ankle Courses.

Although my elective practice is more than 80% Foot & Ankle surgery, I provide a “cradle to grave” service for Foot Conditions, as I see children with orthopaedic problems. I am part of a clinical network with Bristol Children's Hospital, where I hold an Honorary contract.

In addition I treat adult patients with knee conditions, in particular degenerate knees requiring knee arthroplasty.

Mr Brown offers surgery for these additional conditions:

•  All Orthopaedic problems with Children's legs
•  Knee Arthritis
•  Childhood Hip Problems
•  Knee Injuries
•  Childhood Foot Conditions
•  Knee pain in Children

Dr. Matthew Shaw MB ChB MRCP FRCR
Consultant Radiologist

After graduation from the University of Bristol I trained as a Physician becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. Building on this I completed my general Radiology training. While working at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Frenchay Hospital, Bristol and the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath I developed a keen interest in musculoskeletal imaging. In 2003 I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and was appointed Consultant Radiologist at Cheltenham General Hospital in 2005.

I specialise in musculoskeletal imaging with particular emphasis on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and ultrasound, including ultrasound guided injections. I report scans for the local professional football and rugby clubs.

I am a keen medical educator and am currently the Clinical Tutor for the Royal College of Radiologists at Cheltenham General Hospital, helping to train the next generation of Radiologists.
